The Western Australian goldfields city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has been shaken by a number of earth tremors.
Just before 10:00pm Monday (AWDT) a short and intense vibration pulsed through the city, about 600 kilometres east of Perth, shaking ceilings and setting off alarms.
Another shorter pulse came about half-an-hour later.
Police say they do not know what is causing the event but say there have been no reports of injuries or damage.
Geoscience Australia, which monitors earthquake activity, is investigating.
John Barbetti was in his hotel room near the city’s centre when the first vibration struck and says it was very loud.
“I thought it might have been an earthquake but in an earthquake the building would sway or move or cups and saucers would move,” he said.
“It was like a thud and then that was it, just lasted a couple of seconds.”
a few hours later….
“Seismologist Spiro Spiliopoulos says both (events) were around two and a half on the Richter scale.”
According to Geoscience Australia the first tremor’s details were…
|13:26:29||-30.825||121.799||71||2.4||32 km ESE of Kalgoorlie|
and for the second…
|12/11/2007||12:56:32||-30.59||122.32||0||2.5||83km ENE of Kalgoorlie|
